Loved it when first shown on TV . Its one of those series you can keep on watching. Been and visited the Mill ( Quarry Bank, Stockport) where it was filmed and it seems there is another series coming out this year as they had just been filming. Bought DVD to watch before the next series screens.

The series is set in rural-industrial 19th-century England ands is based on the historical archive of Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire. It depicts the country at a time when the industrial revolution began to change the country beyond recognition forever.

It is 1838 and whilst John and Daniel celebrate the reprieve of the Tolpuddle Martyrs the new Poor Law drives economic migrants from Southern England to the mill in the form of agricultural worker John Howlett and his family and shoemaker Abe Whittaker and his grandson Will, who takes a shine to Esther.
