So absorbing and intricate, it is a series with a terrific cast and more importantly writers. I was dubious when the US (I don't remember which network) adapted it for US television. I watched the first couple but knew it wasn't going to work. "Cracker" with Robbie Coltrane is brilliant in it's stories, performances and style.

The show is called Cracker supposedly because Fitz can crack open the criminal psyche with ease and finesse. Only this version seems more like guessing. If you are interested in detective shows which focus on criminal psychology, try Cracker (1993-1996), Wire in the Blood (both are very dark), or Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

I watch a lot of crime fiction shows. Gritty, dark, and realistic are one thing but this crossed the line for me. So much shouting, anger, and depression. Cracker himself is fairly detestable and his son isn't much better. The mysteries aren't intriguing enough and drag on too long.
